Word Work: Our class will be learning about -er and -or ending words this week. Our pattern will include identifying the proper way to spell present and past tense words. Examples include: banker, sailor, and survivor. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns. Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week.
Homework This Week: You may notice that the children do not have paper/pencil homework this week. We would like them to read, practice math facts, and get rest. This is for a few reasons. First, our classes are going to have a Reading Counts Competition for the month of May. Increasing their reading time will help them to be able to have greater participation. Second, there are a number of students still working on completing the 2nd grade goal of Wizard C and Wizard D. Having extra time for flashcard and math games will hopefully help this. Finally, we will be taking our NWEA reading test the next two weeks. Checking a student for a year’s worth of growth does not usually work when the child is tired. We see the increase in activities and do not want to add to busy schedules the next two weeks. Thank you for your understanding.
Field Trips: Friday, May 10th 9:15 - 1:15
Heritage Museum and Historical Neighborhood Walk happens THIS WEEK!!! Our second grade classes will be going to the Heritage Museum to tour their latest exhibit and walk our historical neighborhood. We will eat our sack lunch at the Heritage Museum. Students should dress appropriately for the weather, as part of our trip will be outdoors. PARENTS ARE WELCOME.
Friday, May 24th 9:00 – 12:30
Lincoln’s three second grades will be visiting the Silver Beach Carousel, touring historical sites on the bluff, and watching the Memorial Day Parade. The trip will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the carousel and conclude after the parade at approximately 12:30 p.m. Our second graders will ride the carousel twice for a $1.00. Each student is asked to bring a dollar to cover the cost if possible. Money is not due until the week of the trip.
Students will need a drink and sack lunch for both field trips unless a school sack lunch is ordered ahead of time. A form will be sent home at a later date.
**PARENTS ARE WELCOME to attend both of our field trips. We ask no sibling attend since
this is a special time for our second grade students to learn about our community.
**If you plan on chaperoning, volunteer forms must be on file and processed before the trip.
Please allow at least a week for processing. You may pick up forms in the office or call the
office (926-3700) to have forms sent home with your child. Thank you
