Word Work: Our class will be learning about contractions this week. Some words that are
contractions include it’s, here’s, shouldn’t, they’re, and I’ll. Students should read their word lists,
discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns. Spelling
City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week.

Monday Morning Meetings: Our Monday Morning Meetings continue. As mentioned every
Monday all the 2nd grades gather together to discuss a topic to start our week off with. During the
past 3 weeks we have been discussing perseverance and how sometimes we can experience a dip in
what we do. Being able to persevere is something we need in all aspects of our lives. Next time you
see your child struggling to solve a problem you know they can do, encourage them to persevere;
they will know what you are talking about.

Reading Month: Thank you for encouraging your child to read every night and working with them
to find ways to make reading fun. The kids are doing great at reading and tracking their minutes.
We have also had a fun time learning about the world while trying to track where our principal is
traveling. If you haven’t seen the video of the principals leaving for their trip be sure to check
out the reading month link below the Lincoln Symbaloo.
