Word Work:   Our class will be learning about the variant vowel /o/ syllable patterns
this week. Our syllable pattern makes the /o/ sound in words wall, flaw, and thought.    Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words,
and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week.

A Special Guest: Thank you to Kennedy Arney and her family. During Kennedy's Star of the Week, a special guest reader was arranged. On Friday, Congressman Upton visited with our class, read us the book, and answered many questions ranging from his favorite subject, to time as a Congressman, to how Lincoln has changed since he went to school there. It was a neat experience for the children. In addition WNDU put his visit on the news. Thank you to the parents who sent the link. I appreciate their help so I could share it with you. Upcoming Sarett Field Trip: We will be going to Sarett on Friday, March 8th.  We will leave the
school at 11:45 for our 12:15 trip.  Parent chaperones are welcome to join us on this field trip.

If you are able to join us on that day please let me know. Thank you!

Third Trimester: It is hard to believe we are in our last trimester of second grade.  Thank you for
the encouragement and support you give your child to do her/his best at school.  The days will get
longer and busier as we approach spring activities. Please help your child perform well by getting
enough sleep and eating a healthy breakfast each day.  Thank you.

March is Reading Month:  Information was sent home Friday, March 1st along with March is
Reading PassPorts to record reading minutes during the month of March.  Please help your child
graph his/her minutes daily and record minutes.  It would be beneficial for students to keep their
reading passport in their homework folders so reading minutes can also be recorded at school.  If
they reach their weekly goal and return their passports each Friday they will earn a raffle ticket to
place in the Reading Raffle buckets. If they also completed the Reading Adventures, then students
will earn another raffle ticket to place in the buckets.

*The reading passports will replace our class reading logs during the month of March.*
