    Week of January 28, 2019

1/28	B Day	We have gym.    Homework: Complete Math Center Practice Sheet and review          word list.
1/29	C Day	We have gym and art.    Homework:  Complete your word sheet.
1/30	D Day	We have music.    Homework: Complete math sheet
1/31	E Day	We have music.    Homework: Read for 15 min and make sure your reading log is         up to date.
2/1	F Day	We have music.    We do not have homework.  Remember to read this weekend.

Word Work:   Our class will be learning about the vowel diphthong /ou/ syllable patterns this
week. Our syllable pattern makes the sound as in  brow, aloud, and discount. Students should read
their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable
patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week.

Great Kindness Challenge Week:  The Great Kindness Challenge is one week dedicated to creating
a culture of kindness at schools around the country.  Our school is proud to participate in this
proactive, positive bullying prevention initiative. All students will receive a GKC checklist with a
list of kind deeds and themed spirit days to celebrate kindness.  Thank you for helping show your
child that kindness matters. Below are the themed days for January 28th-February 1st.

                                     

Upton Planetarium:  Our second grade class along with Mrs. Borah’s class will be going to
the planetarium at Upton Middle School on Friday, Feb. 1st.  Our presentation will
be “Legends of the Night Sky: Orion”. We are excited to visit the planetarium and learn

about constellations.
