Word Work:  Our class will be learning about the r-controlled o syllable pattern
this week. The following words are examples of this pattern:  board, chore, and
four.  Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words,
and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready
for students to access the practice list for the week.

Snack: Please remember we have snack twice a day. This past week there were
a lot of children lining up for pretzels because they did not have snack. Thank you!

Monday Morning Meeting: Every Monday morning the three 2nd grade
classrooms gather together to learn big ideas to help with social and emotional
learning.  Some of the topics we have talked about include growth mindset,
mindfulness, and working memory. This week and next we are talking about
hope.  What is it and what does it mean to have hope. This past Monday we cut
out and glued a poem into our data notebooks. The poem is list below. Be
sure to check in with your student on Monday to see what they learned at
the Monday Morning Meeting.

Hope is believing your dreams will come true, It’s knowing you'll be
successful in all that you do. You will need to work hard and have
patience too, But when you have hope each day is brand new.
Have hope for your tomorrow!

Ice Skating: Thanks to our PTO and the City of St. Joseph, our Lincoln School
K-5 student will be able to ice skate for free at the Howard Ice Arena on
Thursday, Dec.13th.  Our second graders will walk with their fifth grade
buddies and teachers to and from the ice rink. Students may get ice skates
to use at the rink for free or bring their own skates in a bag. Helmets and
safety gear are encouraged. Parents are welcome to join us. It is very
helpful to have parents assisting students with putting on and taking off
skates. We will be leaving Lincoln School at 8:45 and returning
back to school at 10:00.

Thank you:  We would like to thank Mrs. Krieger and Miss Mauriello,
our WMU interns for being a special part of our second grade team.
Their last day as student teachers will be Thursday, December 13th.  We wish
them the best of luck as they begin their teaching careers.
